

St. Petersburg State Budget Institution of Culture "State Library for the Blind and Visually Impaired" (St. Petersburg GBUK GBSS) is the largest special library of Russia, member of the Russian Library Association (RLA), a member of IFLA and Regional Resource Centre for Special Libraries of the North-West region of Russia.
St. Petersburg GBUK GBSS has a complex system of automation of library processes, connect to the Internet through a dedicated line and its own WEB-server. The electronic catalog contains 504,756 records.
St. Petersburg Library for the Blind and Visually Impaired serves 11,000 readers of the city and the region and is considered a leader among Russian libraries for the blind in the implementation of innovative methods in library services of people with visual problems.
Among the problems solved in line with the global library cooperation, – development of single standard of record "talking" books, the creation of a world information database on funds of special libraries, providing blind and physically disabled people access to global information resources.
