The first public exhibition of unofficial Leningrad artists took place from December 22nd to December 24th 1974 in the Gaza House of Culture. Despite the absence of any official advertising, several thousands of visitors came to see the exhibition during the four days when it was on show. The works by independent artist were presented to the people for the first time and initiated a real revolution in the minds of the Leningrad audience. The exhibition itself became a true turning point in the history of nonconformist art.
