Central Museum of communication was named by A. S. Popov is one of the oldest scientific – technical museums in the world, it had founded in 1872. The unique Museum collection devoted to the history of development of means of communication, exhibits on the history of post, Telegraph and telephone communication, radio communication, radio broadcasting, television, mobile, space and satellite communications.The part of the Museum funds is invaluable for all philatelists the State collection of the marks of postal payment of the Russian Federation, as well as a collection of artabasy modern artists and mailartists. Among present for viewing the exhibits you can see, for example, ancient travelling papers, and Royal decrees, and the first radio A. S. Popov, and the first commercial communication satellite “Luch – 15”. In the Museum is opened to the public scientific and technical library, are functioning a post – office and an Internet – centre.
The Palace, which houses the Museum, was built by the architect Giacomo Quarenghi for Chancellor of the Russian Empire, Prince A. A. Bezborodko. This building is a remarkable architectural monument of the XVIII century.
After reconstruction in 2001 and 2003, the building of the Museum, interactive exhibits and modern technical equipment not only attract the mass of enthusiastic visitors, but also create the possibility for holding corporate and international conferences, seminars, round tables, devoted to museums and other special subjects.
The main aims of Central Museum of communications are to create a historical, cultural and scientific – educational centre of Communication, which would be attractive for visitors with different demands and interests for specialists, collectors, students, and even VIP guests. The centre has also become a place of family visits, allowing each member of a family to find interesting forms of spending free time in the Museum, including, for example, on the Internet. All of this will be provided by special Museum programmes and projects.
New and spacious rooms of the reconstructed building of the Museum and its displays and modern technical equipment make it possible to hold corporate and international conferences, seminars, round tables, devoted to museums and other special subjects.
