At the first glance, the landscapes by Maria Susarenko remind architectural drawings. But when one looks closer the image gets filled with dynamics, breath and movement. Clear lines are usually associated with precision and pedantry, but Maria’s graphic works they appear as a kind of provocation – despite the first impression of accuracy, they are filled with the spirit of freedom, which is deliberately highlighted by violation of proportions and color expression. The space created by Maria lies somewhere between the surface and the volume, turning into an impressive optical illusion. It embodies a certain philosophical idea of the artist: what if the world, that we perceive as obvious and real, is in fact just an illusion? Curated by Julia Rybakova.
