The state Museum of history of St. Petersburg extends till October 31, 2015 the action, under which is completely free everyone can visit two main exposition of fortress: "The History of St. Petersburg – Petrograd. 1703 – 1918" in the commandant's house and "The history of the Peter and Paul fortress" in the Nevsky curtain.
Recall that the action had started in November 1, 2014 and its term had previously been limited to March 31, 2015.
This event is organized in the framework of the "Opened Museum", state Museum of St. Petersburg has been pursuing for several years, making the Museum more accessible to visitors. Four years in a row, the Museum is in the "out of season" pursued a policy of reduction of prices on tickets for the Peter and Paul fortress by 30%.
This year the Museum went a step further: during the year (from 1 November 2014 – 31 October 2015) Petersburgers and city visitors can totally free to get acquainted with the Museum exhibits devoted to the history and culture of our city from the base to the revolutionary events of 1917.
First of all, the programme "The Opened Museum" is aimed at Petersburgers. Its primary educational aim is to attract citizens to the Museum and the increasing interest in the history and culture of its native city.
The exhibition "The History Of St. Petersburg – Petrograd. 1703 – 1918" is located in 28 halls on two floors of the Commandant's house. It tells about the history of the pri – nevskih lands in pre – Petrine times, the construction on these lands of St. Petersburg, about the formation and rapid development of the city as the Imperial capital of Russia and about the everyday life of St. Petersburg and Petersburgers. Here you can learn how to change the appearance of the city over the centuries? What kind of houses did they live, what did they eat and what did they wear in the city where you shopped and what transportation was used, as were having fun and that attracted their attention? And many other things.
The exposition "The History of Peter and Paul Fortress" tells the story of the formation of the architectural ensemble of the fortress during the XVIII – XX centuries: on the construction of the first wooden and then a stone fortress on the construction of the Peter and Paul Cathedral and other buildings on the Hare Island. About Peter and Paul Cathedral as the tomb of the imperial family, about the holidays and ceremonies, which were held in the temple and in the territory of fortress.
The historical drawings and modern layouts give an idea of how the fortress looked in different periods of its existence.
