"TASS Windows" – propaganda posters of World War II, created by artists and poets on bulletins of the Soviet Information Bureau in Moscow, Leningrad and a few other cities in the Soviet Union throughout the war. Most of the posters bore a pronounced satirical nature. Posters were hung in the streets of cities, exhibited in shop windows, billboards and the walls of houses
"TASS Windows" were a continuation of the tradition of campaign posters "ROSTA Windows" (Russian Telegraph Agency), established during the Civil War and intervention of 1918 – 1920. With the end of the war, production of posters "ROSTA Windows" has lost its meaning and has come to naught. But at the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, this extremely effective and popular form of mass propaganda art was revived and and has become an effective weapon in the fight against the enemy.
On the creation of posters "TASS Windows" worked the best artists and poets. In Moscow – artists Kukryniksy, P. Sokolov – Skalya, V. Lebedev, V. Milashevsky, G. Sawicki, M. Sokolov, V. Ayvazyan, N. Radlov, M. Kozlinsky, Kostin S., F. Kondrashov, A. Shukhmin et al., poets S. Marshak, D. Bedny, Lebedev-Kumach A. Mashistov, Osip Brik and others.

Torich, worked on the texts of O. Bergholz, G. Kaufman.

In the fund of Soviet painting and graphics of the State Museum of History of St. – Petersburg is a collection of posters "TASS Windows" of 1941 – 1945. These are 505 different numbers in Moscow and Leningrad "Window TASS". The collection came to the museum in 1973 from the Library of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR in the bad preservation. Over the past 4 years was done a lot of work on the restoration of posters. Restoration company "Filigree" refurbished 82 posters "TASS Windows" on the funds allocated by the Committee on Culture of St. Petersburg.
Among restored for the exhibition and selected the most striking and characteristic of posters "TASS Windows".
Moscow "TASS Windows" are presented by posters of famous cartoonists who worked under the pseudonym "Kukryniksy" (M. Kupriyanov, Krylov , Sokolov) – "Obese Duce", "Under the Orel yelled in Rome responded" (both – 1943). And the work of Denisov (Denis), V. Lebedev, V. Milashevsky, G. Savitsky, M.Sokolov, P. Sokolov – Skalya, M. Cheremnyh and others. These are sharp satirical posters ridiculing the leaders of the fascist states – Germany and Italy and their henchmen, vividly respond to all the events that took place at the front and in the arena of world politics; and campaign posters depicting Soviet soldiers who fought heroically in the Great Patriotic War, posters calling to free country and to protect civilians: women, children, the elderly – from the enemy.
On display are some posters from the series "Our alphabet", the texts to which were written by S. Marshak. For example, a poster on the "T" is followed by the poem: "Teutonic knightly pig _ happened to sink in the polynya" (art. D. Melnikov), the letter "Sh" corresponds to the text "The Sixth went to Stalingrad. Jackals have not gone back "(art. Soloviev).
The heroic past of the Russian people, their struggle against foreign invaders have been the topic of "Window TASS". The exhibition shows poster "Always, in all times and ages, Russian soldier killed the Prussian" (art. VI Milashevsky text – A. Mashistov), which simultaneously shows the Battle of Lake Peipsi in 1242, victorious battles of the Russian troops of the Livonian, the Seven, the First World (Brusilovsky breakthrough) and the Civil War.
In Leningrad edition "Window TASS" started work from the very first days of the war. The first poster appeared on the streets 24 of June 1941. The central stand of the "Window TASS" was arranged in the window of Eliseevsky store on Nevsky Prospect.
Topics of Leningrad posters were largely in tune with Moscow "TASS windows". But the blockade ring around Leningrad having closed, hunger, cold, constant bombing made adjustments in the creative activity of the Leningrad edition. The topic of saving the city, protecting it fires and epidemics has been one of the main.
The exhibition displays posters from the series "Aunt Dasha", enjoyed great popularity among the citizens of Leningrad "Dasha put bomb on the blade, Dasha put bomb right into the tub," "Aunt Dasha in the post. Post is on N-sk attic … "(both – art. V. Slyschenko, text – O. Bergholz, 1941); posters "Housewives, boys, teens, you were saving, keeping calm, your homes from the enemy's fire. … "(Art. V.Selivanov, text – V. Inber, 1943)," The accumulation of filth and dirt – that's the way to disease and infection! "(Art. Gorbunov, 1942).
In the worst year of blockade posters of the "Window TASS" out with tips for Leningrad "watered your garden zealously – grow vegetables – to all to a miracle!","Dig up your garden in time – you will be with vegetables all year round" (both – art. V. Selivanov, text – A. Fleet, 1942).
Despite the hunger and deprivation the people of Leningrad continued to work in the factories and help the front. This is also reflected in the posters "TASS Windows", "works well, quickly, deftly: Soldiers at the front need a rifle!", "We with each armor tank will help friends combat …" (both – art. Gorbunov, text – AL Torich, 1941 – 1942).
