During the Great Patriotic War (1941 – 1945) every honest citizen of our homeland sought to make a contribution to the victory over the enemy. Did not stay aside and artists. In June 1941, the students and teachers of the Academy of Arts went to the front. Before the artist stood an important task – to create an artistic chronicle of the war, to preserve for future generations the visible image of deeds committed by the people.
Many artists took part in the fighting. In infrequent free time they made pencil sketches of the harsh realities of war by fixing something that does not fall into the dry front-line reports. In those difficult years, repeatedly arranged exhibitions of works by artists of war, including in the besieged Leningrad. Paintings and drawings of the Great Patriotic War are inseparable from the fate of our country and its people, which made the ordeal.
The exhibition includes paintings and graphic works by artists – veterans who worked in the studio artists – marine painters of the Central military – maritime museum in the postwar years. The studio was founded in 1952, since 1963 has been working at TSVMM and so far is the only one in our country, this kind of creative organization. Masters of studio successfully continue the rich tradition of Russian art marinas.
