History of the Art Center “Pushkinskaya-10” began in 1989 with the emergence of squat independent artists, musicians and other underground in the resettlement of the St. Petersburg house on Pushkin Street.
Through the efforts of the members of the creative alternative union – the Experimental Fine Arts (TEII), spontaneously arising hotbed of independent culture was institutionalized and the concept of a Center for Contemporary Art.
Members of TEII officially registered non-governmental, non-profit organization – “The Association Free Culture.” After seven years of fighting city government agreed to preserve the Art Center. Were carried out major repairs and reconstruction of the building.
Currently, “Pushkinskaya-10” is – the only in Russia, a non-governmental, self-governing, independent creative commune.
Inheriting the cultural traditions of St. Petersburg, in 1998, established a partnership in the walls of the house on Pushkin Russia’s first Museum of Nonconformist Art (PIM). The museum contains a unique collection of “unofficial” art of the second half of the twentieth century. Opened at the Museum of St. Petersburg Archive and Library of Independent Art, the Museum is also a part of the author’s gallery of “Bridge Over the River Styx”, the exposure of which is made in collaboration with the State Russian Museum and represents the latest interpretation of the history of Russian contemporary art.
In the 24 years of his artistic career Art Center “Pushkinskaya-10” has gained international fame. In carrying out the integration of Russian art in the world cultural process, we regularly present domestic contemporary art in the international art exhibitions and festivals. Works by artists Art Center are in the collections of museums in Russia, Europe and America. Creation of members of the Association familiar wide audience attending the exhibition halls Siberia, the North and the Far East.
Since 1995, the “Pushkinskaya-10” is a member of international organizations «Trans Europe Halles» and «Res Artis». Art Center presents contemporary art of St. Petersburg at the state level at the festivals “Petersburg to New York” (1996) and “St. Petersburg in Warsaw” (1997).
Visitors to the art center can not only get acquainted with contemporary art, but also buy paintings, prints, books, albums, music, as well as information on the history of St. Petersburg underground. In the art studio you can learn how to draw.
Every last Saturday of June is celebrated as the birthday of the Art Center “Pushkinskaya-10”. On this day in all the exhibition halls of the Art Center and the Museum of Nonconformist Art, in the courts and in the hallways at home, a festival of contemporary art. It involves not only those who work for “Pushkin-10”, but also visitors from all corners of the world.

Art Center provides exhibition, concert and educational activities, representing a wide range of contemporary art. There are numerous galleries, concert halls, clubs, on “Pushkin-10” about 40 artists’ studios and musicians.
Art Center offers the opportunity to participate in art exhibitions and concerts of artists and musicians from other cities of Russia, exchanges of cultural projects with foreign countries.
