The state Museum of history of religion is the only one in Russia and one of the few museums in the world, the exposure of which represent the history of the origin and development of religion.
The Museum has about 200 000 items. Monuments of history and culture of different countries, periods and peoples from antiquity, Ancient Egypt and Israel until the early European middle Ages, from Ancient Greece and Rome to modern times; Buddhism and Islam. The oldest exhibits of the Museum collections and archaeological finds Dating back to the VI century B. C. The Museum building was built in the 1860s by the architect – A. Kavos, it is located in the historical center of St. Petersburg. There are permanent exhibitions, the Foundation open storage "Silver pantry", temporary exhibitions. The Museum's Open University history of religions of the world.
Tour programmes include not only visit the Museum, but also themed bus tours of St. Petersburg and the Northwest region. The program "Museum for children" offers guided tours, interactive sessions, cycle Lesson in the Museum, holiday programmes and programmes of Sunday. Specially equipped rooms of the Museum are designed for conferences, seminars, round tables, concerts and presentations.
