Near the banks of the river and Smolenka chapel of Blessed Ksenia – patron saint of St. Petersburg is located one of the most comfortable and hospitable city museums on the Neva – St. Petersburg Puppet Museum.
One of the first private museums in Russia, it was created in 1998 with the scientific and methodological supervision of the Russian Ethnographic Museum. The basis of the museum collections made several private collections. Now museum exhibits replenished modern copyright and antique dolls. Petersburg Doll Museum – Vasilevsky Island, Kamskaya-8.
Now it is the only museum in St. Petersburg, the most complete telling about dolls. 8 permanent exhibition halls, including the interior rooms dolls, fairy tales, Russian folk dolls, traditional ceremonies and festivals, halls "Theatre and masquerade" and "Forest Kingdom", as well as demonstration workshops for the manufacture of souvenir dolls visitors discover the world of dolls.
An important part of the museum are dolls, textile collages, masks, staged by students of the Faculty of Academy of Performing Arts. The best work of students gathered in the halls of the museum, established in Theatre Academy at different times under the guidance of faculty members – T. V. Slezin, L. V. Ludinovoy.
Cooperation with the Academy of Theatrical Arts contributed to the emergence of new dolls Petersburg Museum principle of exhibiting. The layout of each theater scene showcases likened fronted puppet characters, which creates the effect of a kind of viewer immersion in the magical atmosphere of the doll.
