At the end of May, Anna Nova Gallery is opened a new exhibition project art photographer Uldus (Uldus Bakhtiozina). The exhibition "Russ Land" is created on motives of Russian fairy tales, such as "Swan Princess", "Ivan Tsarevich and the Firebird", "Goldfish" and other.
The exhibition will last since May 28 till August 29, 2015.
Draft Russ Land is the result of a year and a half of work Uldus, which will become a part of her first photo book, the publication of which is planned in 2016. Job of series is based on the dark and wild side of Russian fairy tales, is closely associated with pagan culture and beliefs of ancient Slavs. It is based on the study of the origin of fairy tales, a study of the prerequisites for the creation of their characters and their own experiences, Uldus hyperbolicity their visual image in portraits on medium format film, complementing the characters worked out in minute detail the costumes of their own work, redefining the essence of the characters, giving them continuing to live in the present. Thus, each frame becomes a superposition of all the processes, endowed with a unique vision of a lost and forgotten in a uniform time today.
The aim is pursued by the art photographer to create the feeling that the tales live with us in indissoluble connection with the modern world, so Uldus creates images of their heroes according to the law of time. Uldus, held courses make-up artist on the stage, and comes up with and embodies the very image, makeup, costumes, models. Each suit is a manual laborious work, every situation is an opportunity for the viewer to peek at what the characters might wish to conceal. It is also important to note that Uldus shooting on film and never uses Photoshop.
Uldus is an art photographer, a graduate of Central Saint Martins College, University of the Arts London; nominee for "TOP50. The most famous people of St. Petersburg" 2015 magazine Собака.Ru in the category of "Art"; the first Russian speaker of American conference TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design); one of 100 women of the year, possibly the best project of the BBC 100 Women 2014"; her work has been published in such leading media outlets as the BBC, CNN and The Daily Beast, Vogue Italy, Creative Review, Aesthetica Magazine and Worbz Magazine.
