Continuing research of the Leningrad underground, Collector's Gallery DiDi presents the work of Leonid Borisov (1943 – 2013), a member of "gazonevskoy" culture of Leningrad, a witness of "Bulldozer Exhibition" in Moscow, a chronicler of the informal culture of both capitals. Chronological frameworks of the exhibition from 1975 to 1979 allow considering carefully the early period of creativity of the artist. Among the exhibits – are those most scandalous works – participants of the exhibition of nonconformists in DC "Nevsky" (1975) and has barely begun action of Leningrad artists in memory of Eugene Rukhin at the walls of Peter and Paul Fortress, almost immediately moved to the police station on the street of Skorokhodov (1976). However, in 1978, was held the first solo exhibition of Leonid Borisov in the Palace of Culture behalf of N. Krupskaya. Later comes official recognition, works were purchased by State Tretyakov Gallery and the State Russian Museum.
Already in his early works are read future foundations of the art system of Leonid Borisov: elected spatial boundary of the classical tradition of Russian icons to avant-garde of the beginning of XX century and postmodernist dialogue with other cultures, including Western roots «ready – made», which allowed to some researchers to build a creativity of the master to the rank of "cultivated Dada" (Turchin). Namely a dialogue, but not a blind imitation of authoritarian shadows of the past, allows the artist to give a special sound to the work. "Abstraction – is the free expression of artistic ideas. Minimalism – is sterility of this expression. Geometry – is the basis of education of all visual "(L. Borisov). Of course, St. Petersburg poetics of the White Nights is also the basis of creativity of Leonid Borisov: a certain detachment from the known object, an emotional muted felt in each of his work. At the same time paradoxical communication of impossible making a certain dissonance and tension, which are redissolved in bright and clean colours of his palette. The spatial emptiness conceals a deficit or non-obviousness of meaning, which must be read not only in one work of master, but in each of them, step by step, approaching the conversation of the Greats, where to artist includes and viewer, giving him the right to interpretation.
Leonid Borisov was born in Leningrad in 1943. He graduated from the Leningrad Electrotechnical Institute of Communications (LEIS). Creatively collaborated with Vladimir Nemukhin, Edward Steinberg, and members of the "Movement" (second half of 1970 – ies.). Also he is a member of the Union of Artists (since 1992). His personal exhibitions were held in the Palace of Culture behalf of N. Krupskaya (Saint – Petersburg), the State Russian Museum (St. – Petersburg), Moscow Museum of Modern Art (Moscow). He took part in famous exhibition of nonconformists in HC "Nevsky" (Saint – Petersburg, 1975).
